mission-tampa-logo-cooks-hat-food-pantry-400sqCook’s Hat Food Pantry is proud to be participating in the third annual Give Day Tampa Bay on May 3, 2016, and we are encouraging residents to donate to us in our efforts to supply emergency food for families, children, veterans and homeless in the Tampa Bay Area, and minister to the physical and spiritual needs of the community. Last year we served 2106 households, distributed 51,034 lbs. of food, and had 69 professions of faith.

All money raised on this day will stay in the Tampa Bay community.

Give Day Tampa Bay is a 24-hour, online giving event, designed to increase philanthropy in the Tampa Bay area and raise awareness of the amazing work local nonprofits do in this community. This is the third year that the Community Foundation of Tampa Bay has sponsored this event, which raised $1.75 million for 550 Tampa Bay area nonprofits last year.

As an example of how donations can help Cook’s Hat Food Pantry we are consistently busy during our current hours and would like to extend our hours to reach more in the community. In order to do this, we are in need of donations to purchase more staple food items. We would also like to offer more whole foods into our pantry such as, dairy, produce and eggs. To accomplish this, we will need donations to purchase more refrigeration. And last we are in need of new furniture, shelves and carpeting.

In addition to raising awareness of the participating nonprofits, Give Day Tampa Bay offers cash prizes to the participants with the most donations, another reason to give on May 3.

“We are excited to be participating in our first Give Day Tampa Bay event because we have heard from numerous nonprofits about how beneficial it was to them and their fundraising efforts,” said Patty LeFevre, Director of Cook’s Hat Food Pantry. We hope to raise $5000, which will help us tremendously in our work. We also hope to win one of the many cash prizes in the prize pool.”

To increase awareness of Cook’s Hat Food Pantry, we are having a Give Day Yard Sale on Saturday April 30, from 9 AM-2 PM, in the parking lot behind our pantry on the corner of E. Hillsborough and N. Nebraska (at 5306 N. Nebraska). Our yard sale will help us raise money for our pantry. We are hopeful to find a donor who will match the funds raised at our yard sale to contribute on May 3. We will be offering tours of the pantry during the yard sale. Please stop by, do some shopping, visit us, and take a tour.

It’s so simple to give during Give Day Tampa Bay. Simply visit on Tuesday, May 3, 2016 and find Cook’s Hat Food Pantry in the list of participating organizations. All donations made are tax-deductible and will remain here in the Tampa Bay area.
